Two other members of the trio are singer Victoria Pichurova and bayan - Russian button accordion - virtuoso Victor Danilochkin. Ensemble performs Cossack, Russian and Ukrainian folk music, songs and dances. All members of the group are highly trained performers from Russia.

Valentina Kvasova

valentina kvasova Valentina Kvasova is a professional dancer and singer specializing in Russian, Cossacks, Ukrainian, Klezmer and Russian Gypsy traditional dances and songs. She was born in Russia, in the city of Rostov-na-Donu, on August 25, 1976. After finishing her formal education in Voronezh Choreographic School in 1994 Valentina has been invited to perform with The Don Cossacks State Academic Song and Dance Ensemble as the actress of ballet.

Professional skills and great talent let her join the concert program in a short period of time and soon to become soloist of the ensemble. Kvasova Valentina successfully performed with the ensemble in Russia, Japan, Spain, Hungary, the republic of South Africa, the USA and other countries. As a professional Russian folk dancer Valentina Kvasova equally manages roles of lyrical, playful or comic characters.

New York based Russian Cossack Ukrainian singer Victoria Pichurova is a native of Rostov-na-Donu, Russia. Before coming to the United States of America in 2005 Victoria was a soloist of the world-known Don Cossacks State Academic Song and Dance Ensemble.

There are some 200-300 years old Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian and Gypsy folk songs in Victoria Pinchurova's repertoire with wide range of different genres: military historical, lyrical prolonged, wedding ceremony, Russian epic (bylina), romances, dancing songs and chastushki. Victor Danilochkin

Russian bayan virtuoso Victor Danilochkin is based in New York. He performs solo, and with various folk groups based in New York and New Jersey including Russian folk singer Irina Zagornova, Russian folk music ensemble Golden Rooster, balalaika band of Lev Zabeginsky. He started to perform with Russian dance and music ensemble Barynya in 2006.

In 2007 Russian folk singer and dancer Valentina Kvasova and Cossack folk singer Victoria Pichurova invited Victor Danilochkin to start their own project - the first in New York Cossack song and dance trio.

Victoria Pichurova and Valentina Kvasova Cossack folk song and dance concert will take place in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 8pm.

Cossack folk singer Victoria Pichurova, Cossack singer and dancer Valentina Kvasova, Russian bayan virtuoso Viktor Danilochkin will perform traditional Cossack songs, harmonies and dances with accompaniment of Bayan (Russian button accordion).

Victoria Pichurova and Valentina Kvasova with ensemble Barynya were touring the state of OHIO as part of the Ohio Arts Councilís Summer International Music and Performing Arts in Communities Tour (IMPACT). Barynya performed many shows, Russian & Ukrainian dance workshops from July 17 to July 28, 2007. Performance locations included Lakeside, Warren, Marietta, Jackson and Grandview Heights. All performances were free and open to the public.

The Russian Nobility Association in America annual Spring Russian Nobility Ball took place at the luxurious "Pierre" Hotel on May 11, 2007 in New York City. Musicians and dancers of New York based Russian dance and music ensemble Barynya (full company) including Victoria Pichurova and Valentina Kvasova provided music for coctail hour and thirty minute music and dance program during the dinner. We decided to start the rehearsal around 6 pm in order to finish it by 8pm. Singer Sasha Menshikov and Mikhail Smirnov arrived around 6:15pm to be the first ones there...

BAYAN - Russian button accordion description and history

BAYAN - Russian button accordion - differs from western chromatic button accordions in some details of construction: Reeds are broader and rectangular. Reeds are often attached in large groups to a common plate (rather than in pairs); the plates are screwed to the reed block (rather than attached with wax).

The bayan is a type of chromatic button accordion developed in Russia in the early 20th century. It was in Petersburg from the 1770's to the 1790's where Kratzenstein, Kirsnik, and Vogler were inspired to build the first free-reed instruments.
